THE ELEMENTS
How to do it.

FIRE.
We used two pieces of wood (long as the window shatter). They were hunged up with some angulars to make them enough distant from the shatters. Then, at the moment of the photo, the wood has been wet with lamp oil. With two little pieces of paper attached at the bottom of each piece of wood, the fire starts.
AIR
We used some clear plastic folders, sticked together with simple tape. Then, with a correcting fluid, we've drawn some lines to make an "air effect". The folders were in the air thanks to a frame of fishing threads (the clearer ones). Inside the window (behind the models) there was a smoke machine. Outside, under the window, there were two ventilators pointing to the model face and dress (to make them move).
EARTH
We made the structure using a quite resistant net. We put on it some layers of kitchen paper with vinavil diluted with water. When dry, we made a basic brown on it just painting it with brown colour. Then, we covered all the dry structure with "real earth" (just using mud). Finally, with pieces of wire, we attached on the whole structure pieces of real roots. The day of the photo, it was enriched with some green plants and a nest.
(On the model there are real roots and real edera)
WATER
First, we built a system of tubes to make the water arrive from the bathroom (the room near to the water window). Up, there are two wood boxes (reinforced with silicon and american tape). In the boxes (at the bottom) there is a crack with a plug in it. When the boxes were full of water, with two ropes attached to the plugs, a person could uncork the cracks simply pulling the ropes.
On the boxes, we built some rocks using cartons (with layers of kitchen paper on it with vinavil and water- and then painted). Under the window there is a "gutter pipe", built with an half of a big tube, then painted and attached at the bottom of the window, to make the water go out of the scene. The real edera was added the day of the photo.
HOW TO TAKE THE SHOT
When all was ready: fire has been lighten. When the flames were good, i shouted "go, go, go!". My boyfriend (the one who built the elements) pulled the ropes to uncork the cracks of the water and a friend of mine made the smoke machine start. We had three bad series of shots, the fourth was the good one!
And it was made.
