THE ENTRANCE OF THE DARK WOOD

before-after:

So this is one of the several shots taken on 14th november. It was a very difficult photoshoot, with a lot of people helping me (they were all so wonderful!) in a wood quite far from my house.
This shot is not the first of the serie. Just because itís a story, a very detailed story, with a lot of images illustring it. Here on dA i canít publish all the story, itís too long (^^í), but obviously iíll submit something else! ;)

This is the part where the little girl finds the entrance of the dark wood. Youíll see the rest. I think iíll publish the whole story somewhere else, so you can read (and see!) it all! :)

I have to thank a lot of people. Without them i couldnít take anything like this!
Photos & editing: me.
Art director: Pierfrancesco Gennaro (the best! ☺ )
Model: Sara Bevacqua.
Dress by: Sara Subiaco.
Scenography: David de Angelis and Luca Tomassi (my lover, whose help was really precious also for the ideas behind all the serie)
Make-up & Hairstyle: Silvia Faccini.
Assistants: Rachele Maggi and Camilla CarŤ.
Body painting (youíll see something of it in other shots with other models): Angelica Marilungo.

A big thanks to the best team ever! :D

And hope you like it.
As you can see, this shot in particular is obviously inspired my alice in wonderland.

Thanks a lot for your important support! :boing:

Hello miss amazing photographer! I had a little question. My english 101 class is writing a paper where we find a picture and explain what itmeans to us and al that jazz, and I chose your lovely photograph here. My question was if you remember/could tell me what the sign under Take a Right says?

fake aurora around the lantern, no lens flare of any kind, girl brighter than the sky (lol), distant signs more visible than the first plan ones, skin tone incorect. I'm reporting this.

Not to be mean, but have a little common sense. The lighting is adjusted so that the signs closest to the lantern or more lit up. No copy paste, no reason to be reported.

All this is, is correct editing and an artistic view on life.

It's funny how you freely give out your opinion believing that it's helpful.
It's funny how fired up you got over a photo (NOT a photo-manipulation).
It's funny how you are 100% convinced that you're right, even after you've been proven wrong.
It's funny how you've made an account on this site for the pure purpose of "criticizing" other people's work.
It's funny how you wrote this: "I am really sorry, but you should not have posted under photography, and that's final".
It's funny how you claim that you shouldn't insult a person but just critique their work, yet your little opinions sound like you're attacking the artist, ending with the threat of 'I'm reporting this' (from the very first comment, without waiting for a response).
It's funny how you think that what you're giving is critique, when even in your first comment you've clearly made up your mind that you're right and the artist who took (and edited) the photo is wrong.
It's funny how you clearly didn't even look through the rest of the artist's gallery to see that the majority of its contents are PHOTOS, and that photo-manipulation is not her thing.
It's funny how your immediate response to someone's objection of your opinion is to try and mock their avatar and signature - essentially, their appearance... no, that isn't even funny, that's hilarious.

That's my opinion - free speech like you said.
You can't tell me I'm wrong because it's my OPINION that you're funny for all of the aforementioned reasons (and I could go on, but to be honest, I've got better things to do).

of course it was - look at the three signs to the right of the person - they are brighter and more clear to read than the ones in the first plan. The person is TOO BRIGHT (used a filter) and the skin tone does not "fit" the rest of the photo (fake light effect). the three signs also reflect light - the lantern would need to be much stronger than that to get reflected on a wooden surface during daylight. And if you think it was dark - then the person would be darker and not so sharp. Look at the aurora around the lamp - a simple round circle with a constant level of alpha. Also, where's the lens flare of any kind? Lastly check the hand holding the lamp - its in front of the girl, so why is the rear right part of the dress also illuminated? :D IT'S FAKE .. oh, and the description says "Photos & editing: me." .. so there was editing after all..

Excuse me but the artist has clearly shown that she took the entire photo and changed nothing but lighting effects.

She didn't add in any false background or create any otherwise illusions. She just wanted to add a dark mood.

And anyways what difference does it make? Instead of commenting on the LABEL of the photo why don't you give her constructive criticism in terms of how she can IMPROVE it.

All you seem to be is attacking her for a stupid deviantart system.

If she took a photo of a pencil and passed it off as a drawing that would be a problem.

And of COURSE a photo is edited before being put on deviantart. Otherwise it would be just a snapshot.

Honestly, this entire thing is so ridiculous. It's not like she's trying to pull a scam to get into the front page. She's a professional photographer and does not need deviantArt pageviews or anything of the sort. She's just trying to share her work to people who otherwise may not get the chance to see it.

Please show some respect to people who post their hearts here. Nagging on silly things is just mean.

I'm not against constructive criticism but this isn't even meant to HELP the artist you're just ATTACKING her.

English is not her first language so she can't defend herself as well as you can even if she has a good grasp in it.

Please show some respect.

ohhh pleaseeee, it's just like minorities - playing poor ol' targets, white devil attacking! Just come in, say something straight in the face and the weak minded children get depressed, suicidal. Only comments like "cool", "nice", "great" are accepted, but when criticism arrives - oh God, no! (like facebook and their "like" button, where's my free speech to say DON'T LIKE IT?)

There is yet another picture - a half female, half tree. Under PHOTOGRAPHY! What is going on?

It is not about me attacking, this is about spoiling kids, letting them do whatever they want. Rules, values, everything dies. This is NOT PHOTOGRAPHY, the very moment you temper with the stuff this becomes DIGI-ART ..

Also you have mentioned her being a Professional? How would you define that word in this case? That sure was a strong word to use..

Thanks for the intelligent discussion, appreciate it!

That's the thing.

You did not offer ANY constructive criticism. I know because I always offer it, on every photo I comment on.

There is not a single piece of it in your comment. You're attacking the DEVIANTART LABEL she put it under. How is that helping her develop as a photographer? How is that helping her improve her skills or the photo?

I define professional as someone who gets paid to do something; which she does. She gets paid to take photography.

Excuse? Cut myself? I am not one to break down crying the second someone says something in my work that's a little off.

But the comment you made had NOTHING to do with the work itself.

Also just search general photography under deviantart. Every single photo there is edited in terms of lighting and contrast.

A digital manipulation is one in which physical elements are added or removed to create an illusion.

All the basic elements are there, just lighting was changed; something the photographer admitted to herself.

So as long as she says, "YES THIS IS NOT A RAW PHOTO I ENHANCED LIGHTING", what difference does it make under which deviantart labelling system it's under?

Half the time I don't even know which system my own stuff fits under. I just guess.

So if you want to offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism on the photo ITSELF, go ahead.

What you offered is anything about constructive and was not stated in a constructive manner.

"You did not offer ANY constructive criticism. I know because I always offer it, on every photo I comment on."

CONGRATULATIONS

"I define professional as someone who gets paid to do something; which she does. She gets paid to take photography."

OH, SO FOR EXAMPLE - A LOUSY COMPANY WHICH SELLS YOU CRAP IS STILL PROFESSIONAL? OH COME ON, YOU GOTTA DO BETTER THAN THAT :D

"But the comment you made had NOTHING to do with the work itself."

YES IT DID - IT'S IN THE WRONG SECTION

"Also just search general photography under deviantart. Every single photo there is edited in terms of lighting and contrast."

FINE, BUT THE VERY MOMENT YOU ADD SOMETHING (that aurora) THIS IS MANIPULATION

"A digital manipulation is one in which physical elements are added or removed to create an illusion."

TA DAAAA! SEE PHOTO ABOVE

"So as long as she says, "YES THIS IS NOT A RAW PHOTO I ENHANCED LIGHTING", what difference does it make under which deviantart labelling system it's under?"

CUZ THOSE ARE THE RULES. 2) LETS REMOVE THE BLOODY CATEGORIES THEN. THE CATS ARE THERE SO I CAN SEARCH FOR USEFUL STUFF, IMAGINE HOW ANGRY IT MAKES PEOPLE WHEN YOU GET USELESS RESULTS. 3) IF SHE ADMITS IT'S BEEN MODDED - STICK IT IN DA BLOODY RIGHT CATEGORY THEN, WHATS THE PROBLEM? YOU BOTH KEEP ON CONTRADICTING YERSELVES.

"Half the time I don't even know which system my own stuff fits under. I just guess."

OR MAYBE YOU'RE JUST LAZY EH? IT'S REALLY NOT THAT DIFFICULT

"So if you want to offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism on the photo ITSELF, go ahead."

I DID GODS DAMN IT. I'VE POINTED OUT THAT THE MANIPULATION WAS POORLY DONE. I HAVE POINTED OUT THE ERRORS. NOW GO AND FIX THEM, WHATS THE PROBLEM?

"What you offered is anything about constructive and was not stated in a constructive manner."

OH BOO HOO, HERE WE GO AGAIN. JUMP OF A BRIDGE THEN :/ TODAYS KIDS, CANT COPE WITH LIFE ..

I'M NOT GONNA CONTINUE WITH THIS, IT'S POINTLESS. ADIOS! I AM IN A PROCESS OF MOVING THE PICS TO MY OWN SERVER. NO COMMENTS, NO SOCIAL PSEUDO-NETWORKS, THIS IS JUST COMMERCE NOW. ANOTHER FACEBOOK WITH PICS. NOT LIKE IT USED TO BE YEARS AGO :(

you just gave yourself away, the person did not ask about anything BEING ADDED, was a general question about this being edited. But since we know that only a few of these signs are real (...) there is no way this person would be THAT MUCH visible in such conditions (...) fake, should be reported
